First Slice 1/4/13: Plans to rezone Cheshire Bridge corridor shelved, for now

1. Tharon Johnson, a former high-ranking member of Barack Obama re-election campaign team, has taken a post as managing director of National Government Affairs at McKenna Long & Aldridge, an international law firm based in Atlanta. You may remember Johnson from his role in leading Mayor Kasim Reed's election campaign, and as one of CL's 20 People to Watch in 2012.

2. Since Delta announced it would be hiring 400 flight attendants in the coming year the company has received more than 43,000 applications - about two every minute.

3. Plans to rezone sections of Cheshire Bridge Road in an effort to clean up the abundance of adult businesses and make the corridor a more family-friendly locale have been shelved, at least for now. It's a slightly complex issue of urban design, rezoning, and grandfathered businesses that Atlanta's zoning review board will pick back up after 60 days.

4. Questions continue to swirl around a New Year's Eve stabbing in Reynoldstown involving 19-year-old Luke O'Donovan and a group of five others. Friends of O'Donovan's say he was defending himself after the group repeatedly called him a gay slur and possibly attacked him. The thing is, none of the folks involved are telling their stories, including O'Donovan, according to the AJC.
