
Artist and GSU Photography professor, Constance Thalken, is exhibiting a collection of photographs titled 1.2 cm = at Whitespace Gallery. This intimate collection of photographs chronicles the artist's battle with breast cancer, documenting her body's transformation during the course of her treatment. Thalken offers a rare look into the most personal aspects of a single woman's struggle with this horrific disease. Whitespace will hold an opening reception tonight from 7-10 p.m., 1.2 cm = will show through Feb. 16. More art after the jump in this weekend arts agenda.

The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center opens two new exhibitions toinght, Tony Labat and Tad Savinar's Nice to Meet You (pictured above) and Alix Pearlstein's The Dark Pavement. Labat and Savinar are multi-disciplinary conceptual artists who explore similar societal issues through performance, video, drawing, and sculpture with an often humorous twist to their work. While Pearlstein combines video and performance with impromptu scripts and dialogue to bring awareness to different perceptions of the same visual amongst people.

The Chastain Arts Center is exhibiting an a collection of stills and video by Arturo Lindsay titled Portraits of Yemaya. Yemaya being the 'mother of the sea' in some African cultures, Lindsay explores photographs of the sea from around the world, with an opening reception tonight from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the center.

Artist Alix Pearlstein holds an artist talk at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center to speak about her inspiration for her new work titled The Dark Pavement and her experience working with an Atlanta film crew and actors to produce her newest work on site. From 11 a.m to noon at the ACAC on Saturday.

Hagedorn Foundation Gallery holds a reception for a group show titled Traces of Myth, in which each artist explores a personal history close to their own culture or home. Through these individual memories, a greater picture of culture is painted as a whole, featuring the work of Chris Buck, Paul Hagedorn, Lisa Kereszi, Laura Noel and Landon Nordeman. The reception is from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday.
