First Slice 1/14/13: That great weather this weekend broke a 123-year-old heat record

Saturday's high temperature of 76 degrees was the highest Atlanta's seen since 1890. Global warming is the best, y'all.

Last night, state lawmakers feasted on BBQ provided by lobbyists. Today the General Assembly huddled under the Gold Dome to kick off the 40-day legislative session. Expect debates over budgets, ethics, guns, and absolutely nothing on transportation. Here's a rundown of some issues. (Look for CL's legislative preview this week.)

Kevin Ross, a political consultant whose home and office were searched by police at the same time as DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis', is a longtime player in metro Atlanta politics.

Marietta Police say that just because they've set up a surveillance tower in A.L. Burruss Park, a spot that was once well known for cruising, doesn't mean people are again using the area for public s-e-x. Nope, nothing to see here, move along, folks.

"Argo," "Les Miserables," and "Django Unchained" won big at the Golden Globes. Jodie Foster... talked. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made the show actually watchable. And in the TV categories, "Jesse Ventura's Conspiracy Theory" was overlooked and robbed.
