A woman was assaulted and carjacked outside of the Ross department store in the Edgewood shopping center around 10:30 p.m. last night, Atlanta Police say.
"Three black males were staged up behind a wall adjacent to the store," APD spokesperson Kim Jones said in a statement. "When the victim exited her vehicle to go into the trunk [of her car] one suspect, armed with a black pistol, approached her and demanded her car keys and her cell phone."
After trying to climb back in her vehicle to flee, one of the suspects hit the woman, APD says, before taking the 2008 silver Ford Focus and speeding off south along Moreland Avenue.
Ross store manager Karen Barnes, who did not work last night, today said employees were leaving the building as officers showed up, but was unaware if management had been contacted by police about the incident.
No arrests have been made, but APD is on the lookout for the silver Focus with Georgia plates AZP8798. If you spot it, call 911.
The woman suffered a minor laceration on her lower lip, but declined treatment.
