  • Atlanta Police
  • APD officer Reggie Robinson was allegedly shot by Frank Nance after responding to a call near West End Mall earlier this month.
1. "I do whatever I want," 70-year-old Michael Snider told a motorist after he rear-ended a car Wednesday night. And according to police Snider did exactly that, allegedly driving drunk and hitting more than a dozen cars across two counties before he crashed into a Gwinnett restaurant. The last crash was fatal, and Snider now faces a slew of charges including DUI, vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and others.

2. A simple battery charge against well-known preacher Creflo Dollar, Jr., stemming from a scuffle with his daughter has been dismissed. Dollar completed a three-month pre-trial intervention program, attended anger management classes, reported to a probation officer, and paid more than $1,000 in fees to avoid his day in court.

3. A wheelchair-bound Army veteran near Athens pulled a pistol Wednesday afternoon and scared off a would-be burglar, the Banner Herald reports. Mark Sikes, the 53-year-old veteran, didn't shoot the intruder, but told the newspaper he was ready to:

"All I know is he was in my house. Things are starting to get out of hand, and if people don't start standing up for themselves and putting crooks in the ground, the law is just going to slap them on the wrist and let them go."

4. A new Walmart opening this week on MLK Drive has decided not to sell any guns in the store as a response to concerns expressed by community members.

5. The debate over a proposed chicken ordinance is heating up in Cobb County.

6. An Atlanta Police officer says he hit Frank Nance, the 20-year-old who shot APD officer Reggie Robinson earlier this month, in the face with his gun while making the arrest because he feared for his life. A mugshot of Nance taken shortly after his arrest depicted him bruised, bloodied, and in what appeared to be a neck brace.
