Eighty-eight-year-old Ruth Laxson will exhibit a collection of more than 100 original drawings, paintings, sculptures and other projects in a retrospective exhibition of epic proportions at MOCA GA, curated with the help of local gallery owner Marcia Wood. Some of the pieces displayed have never been seen by the public before. This extensive collection will be on display through March 30, but an opening reception will honor this career milestone for Laxson tonight from 6:30-8:30 p.m. More after the jump in the weekend arts agenda.

Photographer Theron Humphrey traveled the nation with his furry companion, Maddie (a coon hound). In his travels, he documented his pooch and the people and places they encountered. Humphrey donated 15 prints from this journey to Twin Kittens Gallery to be sold to benefit the gallery. An opening reception will be held from 7:30-10 p.m. at Twin Kittens tonight. Stop by before or after the Laxson retrospective - Twin Kittens and MOCA GA are neighbors.

Saturday

Saturday is the last day to see Mary Engel's breathtaking, meticulous sculptures at Marcia Wood Gallery.

{Poem 88} and The Atlanta Preservation Center (APC) have teamed up to present a conceptually interesting exhibition. The idea is to pair five {Poem 88} artists with source material from the APC to create bodies of work in response to whatever was going on in Atlanta at that given time. Pictured above is Be Kind by Sharon Shapiro, who is featuring work alongside Jon Ciliberto, EK Huckaby, Al Matthews and Nancy VanDevender. The artists participating in this project will hold an artist talk and explain their thought processes on this project at 2 p.m. at the APC.

Gyun Hur at the Goat Farm

Artist Gyun Hur will be leading a workshop at the Goat Farm this Saturday as part of the Tanz Shop series. Participants are encouraged to bring materials, ideas and sketches as Hur walks the audience through her creative process from 2-4 p.m.
