First Slice 1/27/13: Every single person in the world wants to run for Sen. Saxby Chambliss' seat

It's been two days since U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss announced he would retire when his second six-year term expires, and the list of rumored potential candidates to replace the Republican reads like a phone book of politicians. Among the names: Republican Congressman Tom Price of Roswell, Gov. Nathan Deal, former Gov. Sonny Perdue, former DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones, and many others. Why not just throw Sarah Palin's name in the mix, just for fun?

MARTA wants North Fulton residents' thoughts on what transit options the often-congested area needs. Might we (once again) suggest catapults?

Mayor Kasim Reed says he hasn't been recruiting candidates - Atlanta City Councilmembers H. Lamar Willis and Keisha Lance Bottoms, specifically - to run against Council President Ceasar Mitchell in November. Challengers for other City Hall seats are starting to appear. Peoplestown resident Robert Welsh announced last week that he was running to unseat Councilwoman Carla Smith, who represents parts of southeast Atlanta including Grant Park.

Think twice before unlocking that smartphone, my friend. And don't mess with the Liberty Bell, either!

In 2000, Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar were stabbed and killed outside a Buckhead nightclub. Baltimore Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis and two other men were charged with murder, but the charges were later dropped. Lewis later pled guilty to a misdemeanor. Nearly 13 years later, Lollar's family still searches for answers.

The hacker-activist group Anonymous has claimed responsibility for hacking a U.S. Justice Department website in response to the prosecution of Aaron Swartz, a hacker who some supporters say was targeted by overzealous legal eagles. Swartz committed suicide earlier this month.
