Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Erroll Davis says metal detectors were not working at the southeast Atlanta school when a shooting took place on Thursday.

Cobb County residents are perplexed now that the Georgia Department of Transportation says a proposed waste-transfer station on Veterans Memorial Highway won't cause a problem for flights taking off and landing at Fulton County Charlie Brown Airport. Neighbors are fighting the expansion of the nearby facility, which wants to start accepting household garbage.

"OK, students, everyone say 'thanks' to the firefighter for coming in and talking to us on Career Day. Now say hello to Gucci Mane."

The 17 abandoned puppies discovered by a homeless hitchhiker on the side of I-20 in Carroll County are now in foster care. And they'll soon be available for adoption.
