But we get the sense that the battle isn’t over. The DeKalb County Board of Zoning Appeals yesterday rejected an appeal by Good Growth DeKalb, a community group opposed to Selig Enterprise’s plan to redevelop Suburban Plaza with a Walmart. Via Decatur Patch:

The project is now cleared to move forward, unless Good Growth DeKalb decides to file additional lawsuits to block the project.

Looks like that might be the case:

As expected, we lost the appeal w/ Board of Appeals- but it was a necessary step before filing our lawsuit. Onward and upward! #StopWalmart

A Walmart spokesman said in a statement last night that the big-box retailer is “delighted to be partners with Selig Enterprises in this retail redevelopment, which we believe will be very positive for the community. Walmart is looking forward to adding 300 new jobs and millions of dollars in new tax revenue to the county by being part of this project. We are also excited about offering the community another option for fresh, affordable food and other merchandise.”
