Weekend Arts Agenda: Photos from far away and a lush look at the human body

Three photography exhibitions open at Jackson Fine Art today - George Georgiou's Fault Lines/Turkey/East/West, Michael Kenna's Works from 2011 - 2012, and Andrew Moore's New Works from Cuba. Taken together, the exhibitions span much of the globe - Kenna adds images of South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and France to Gerogiou's Turkey and Moore's Cuba. All three will run through April 13.

Friday

Mixed-media work by Laura Bell

Laura Bell's Gurgle and Seep opens at Whitespace tonight, with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. In sumptuous stitching, the mixed-media artist creates representations of the body and its processes. The exhibition will run through March 30.

Sergei Isaenko's photo thesis Echoes of the Collapse closes today at the Dewberry Gallery at SCAD. The exhibition examines immigration, displacement, and reckoning through intimate collaboration between Isaenko and his family. Admission is free.

Between visits to the Dewberry Gallery and Whitespace, take a look at The South's Next Wave: Design Challenge today for as little or as much as you want - it's "pay as you wish" day at MODA. While there, vote for your favorite space and object designs. The competition-exhibition runs through March 31.

Saturday

Western Edge

Kibbee Gallery's group show Western Edge closes Saturday with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. The exhibition shows mixed-media work from art students at the University of West Georgia. Catch this "glimpse into the active art scene just west of Atlanta" before it leaves the city.

College Night

Saturday is College Night at the High starting at 7 p.m., with $7 admission for college students. The night promises body paint, "Frida and Diego-inspired swag," interpretive dance by Emory students, and lessons in salsa and tango. Santiago Paramo and Ree de la Vega will DJ.

Spend Sunday taking in two exhibitions that opened this week - see Ashlynn Browning's boldly geometric paintings at Twin Kittens, and Passages, Jessica Rankin's series of "mental maps," painted and drawn, at the Trois Gallery at SCAD.
