First Slice 3/5/13: New gun proposals would loosen ownership restrictions, allow guns in churches and bars

In case you missed my post yesterday, a federal judge denied a motion from the six suspended DeKalb County school board members. The decision clears the path for Gov. Deal to appoint replacements.

State Senators passed a bill yesterday that could loosen gun ownership restrictions. Meanwhile, a new proposal in the lower chamber would allow firearms in bars, churches, and parts of college campuses.

Gov. Nathan Deal isn't buying the sequester hype. "I see sequestration as not just being allowed to say these are the effects and we just do business as usual," he said yesterday. I think it requires federal agencies to do what states do in hard economic times, that is decide where you get the most bang for your buck."

The Transportation Security Administration and Atlanta Police are investigating how a woman ended up on Hartsfield Jackson's tarmac after being allowed into the employee parking lot and waved past numerous security checkpoints.

Fireworks may become legal in Georgia, If a new bill passes.
