  • You've got mail ...

1. It's getting tougher to buy a house here in metro Atlanta, the AJC reports. Last month, homes on the market were down some 32 percent from the same time last year, and experts are expecting the low supply and high demand to start driving values back up. Foreclosures are way down, too.

2. The House of Representatives has passed a bill that, if ultimately signed into law, would lower the standards for students attending technical college to qualify for HOPE scholarships. The move would undo some reforms enacted in 2011 to rein in the ballooning costs of the program:

A portion of the reform initiative backfired when the tougher [grade point average] standard caused enrollment in Georgia's technical colleges to fall dramatically. Far more technical college students dropped out than students in the University System of Georgia because they couldn't meet the 3.0 requirement.

3. Something about gun control and crossover day under the Gold Dome.

4. The United States Postal Service is moving its monthly auctions of undeliverable mail online. The struggling arm of the federal government is expecting to see lost and forgotten items fetch anywhere from 20 to 40 percent more than they currently do at live auctions, held locally at a southwest Atlanta warehouse.

5. A man on trial for drug possession in DeKalb County had his case dismissed yesterday after video evidence supported what he'd been saying all along: Officers planted marijuana on him. Yet,prosecutors say "insufficient evidence" and not the contradictory video footage led to the dismissal, "because the alleged marijuana is not available" as evidence, a spokesperson told the AJC.

With that, we ask: Where do you think that baggie of greens will turn up next?
