The mayor says he was bombarded with hundreds of personal emails a day in opposition during the talks

“Candidly, people have a revisionist memory. People were telling me I was crazy, it was a bad idea. We negotiated the best stadium deal in America. Show me any stadium that costs more than $800 million that has a 20 percent public contribution and an 80 percent private contribution. The Georgia Dome was built with 100 percent public money. No taxes went up in Atlanta. We’re going to have thousands of jobs added during the construction phrase. Now that people see that the stadium looks like the Starship Enterprise or Battlestar Galactica, they’re like, ‘I was for it all along.’”
