Coca-Cola to bring 2,000 jobs to Downtown Atlanta with snazzy new IT center

Atlanta soft-drink titan Coca-Cola will soon leave behind one of its large OTP locations and bring an estimated 2,000 IT employees to a new technology center located in the heart of Atlanta.

The new "Information Technology Center of Excellence" will open in the SunTrust Plaza Garden Offices on Peachtree Center Avenue. After signing a 10-year lease, the company plans to move most workers currently employed in the 3200 Wildwood building off Windy Hill Road in Cobb County to the new location sometime in mid-2014. Officials added that the move will help centralize many of its tech associates under one roof and indicated that the move was a commitment to its hometown of Atlanta.

"Our Company has called Atlanta home for more than 127 years, and we are excited to be able to continue to invest in our hometown," a recent company memo said.

CL reached out to Coca-Cola reps yesterday to see if the company had any additional figures on what kind of economic impact the relocation would have on Downtown. (For example, the estimated number of workers who might use MARTA to access the new office center.) They told us the company hasn't done any such calculations yet. Nevertheless, imagine what all those extra bodies in the city's center might be able to do for local restaurants and shopkeepers. It certainly won't hurt, that's for sure.
