First Slice 6/28/13: Baton Bob is free

1. When it comes to governors creating jobs, Georgia's own Nathan Deal has one of the best records in the country, according to a new study. Since Deal took office in 2011 the state has seen private-sector employment grow by 2.37 percent, compared with a national average of 1.97, translating into 177,500 jobs and bringing him in a tie for seventh-best in the nation.

2. After six years of sitting vacant and countless complaints from the community, an abandoned apartment complex is being razed in southwest Atlanta. No word yet on what the property will be used for, if anything, but some neighbors will just be happy to see it gone.

3. Atlanta Police Union President Ken Allen, who earlier this month sent an e-mail informing APD officers that future raises would be tied to traffic ticket revenue, says more tickets won't necessarily lead to higher pay.

4. Baton Bob has been sprung from the county clink.

5. Mike Patterson, a Good Samaritan that suffered spinal injuries after diving into a creek to save a toddler earlier this month, has succumbed to his injuries.

6. Suspected drunk drivers who refuse a breathalyzer test in Gwinnett County have been getting a surprise. Some police are obtaining search warrants to forcibly draw blood in an effort to obtain evidence for their cases.
