'Save the Pink Pony' campaign slowly gains support

Some of Atlanta's longtime strip clubs have had to fight for survival throughout the first half of this year. Atlanta City Councilman Alex Wan came close to booting several adult establishments along Cheshire Bridge Road - including Onyx, Doll House, and others - from the northeast Atlanta district. Now the Pink Pony, a 22-year-old gentleman's club located in the new city of Brookhaven, faces its own battle.

The Pink Pony, which first opened in 1991, has squared off over the past couple months against the newly formed city in North DeKalb County. The city has passed ordinances that, starting next year, prohibit nudity and alcoholic beverages in adult establishments. The new law would force the strip club located close to Buford Highway and North Druid Hills Road to move or shut down. Rather than invest in a bulk order of tassels, the club has sued the city.

In recent weeks, a "Save the Pink Pony" Facebook page has called attention to the club's continued fight to remain in operation. The website has attracted more than 100 supporters who side with the business, which, according to a May PolitiFact story, has never violated an ordinance or state law.

"The Pink Pony is under threat of being forced to close by the newly created city of Brookhaven near Atlanta, GA," the Facebook page reads. "With the creation of the new city, the founding fathers have decided to 'Zone Out' any existing businesses that are not to their liking."

The Pink Pony's lawsuit against the city is still pending and the club has even suggested de-annexation back to unincorporated DeKalb County (yes, we know it takes a lot to go back there).
