1. Variable rate toll lanes are coming to I-75 on Atlanta's south side, Monroe Patch reports. The cost to travel in the lanes will change depending on traffic conditions and the time of day, and will be accessible via a Peach Pass. Similar premium-priced lanes already exist on I-85 to the north.

2. Cobb County commissioners are looking for input from the public about a proposed $1.1 billion bus line that would connect Kennesaw State University to Midtown Atlanta. Chairman Tim Lee said he's personally behind the project, but added that "a lot of the things we [County Commissioners] do are shaped by who was the loudest at the last possible moment" and he wouldn't back the project if residents were against it. The county has already sunk nearly $5 million on an analysis and environmental impact study.

3. Atlanta's Transportation Committee has put a halt, at least temporarily, on issuing parking lot permits south of the Georgia Dome following a series of residents' complaints about gypsy parking lots and mounds of trash left after the games.

4. An Atlanta man and his son nearly drown on a visit to North Carolina's Ocean Isle Beach last week. Here's his account of the ordeal

5. Now that there's a new baby panda on the way at Zoo Atlanta, please BRING BACK THE PANDA CAM!
