The film that seemed like it would never get made is finally a done deal. And the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which will debut the Jimi Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side starring Andre 3000 as Hendrix, has released an official first look.
Though the John Ridley film, which was shot in Dublin, Ireland, has no rights to any of Hendrix’s iconic music, it didn’t hinder the production because the plot was always set on the struggling period of Hendrix’s career just before he made it big in London and released his debut Are You Experienced?
Instead, the film will feature Andre 3000 performing covers of Hendrix performing covers of the Beatles, Muddy Waters, and other artists. Got that?
TIFF announces the screening schedule for All Is By My Side on Aug. 20.
