Donald Glover turns 'Atlanta' music scene into sitcom

ATL, ho
"Community" actor and comedian Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, recently got the green light from FX network to write, executive produce, and star in a sitcom tentatively titled "Atlanta."

The half-hour comedy is "set against the backdrop of the Atlanta music scene," Deadline reports.

Though Glover's hip-hop alter-ego Childish Gambino isn't considered an Atlanta rapper - except when we counted him No. 16 in our Hater Music Issue last year - he grew up here and graduated from Stone Mountain High School before taking his comedy/writing career on the road. According to Deadline, the FX network has agreed to work around his tour schedule while he films the show. And juggling his side gig on NBC's "Community" won't be a problem because he's only scheduled to appear in five of 13 episodes next season.

As for the show "Atlanta," it'll be interesting to see Glover's take is on the local music scene. If anything, it should provide more fodder for our neverending identity crisis.
