Firearms group claims Deal isn't 'pro-gun' enough, claims his supporters destroyed its flyers

A Georgia-based pro-firearms group has raised concerns over what they consider to be Gov. Nathan Deal's lack of support on the issue of firearms.

Georgia Gun Owners - which calls itself "the ONLY no-compromise, no-sell out grassroots gun organization in the State of Georgia" - passed around handouts outside Deal's "Grillin' with the Governor" event at Lake Lanier last weekend.

"Governor Deal, his staff, and others worked behind the scenes to water down pro-gun bills," GGO executive director Patrick Parsons tells CL. "They wanted to run out the clock. And that's exactly what they did. We want the Governor to publicly support passage of clean, pro-gun bills, not bills watered down with anti-gun amendments."

According to Parsons, Deal's voting record, which includes support for gun-free school zones and the Lautenberg Gun Ban as a congressman, more than speaks for itself. "He claims to be pro-gun, but doesn't act like it," he says.

As Peach Pundit points out, the group went one step further and shared photos of alleged Deal supporters, who the group says destroyed their pro-gun flyers, on its Facebook page.

"Governor invited groups to 'showcase' out at the BBQ," Parsons says. "We took him up on the offer. His staffers weren't happy, as the pictures show[.]"

And that's exactly what the pictures suggest. Here's a shot of one alleged Deal staffer who was allegedly "harassing gun owners who were educating Republicans on Mr. Deal's antics," possibly with a beer refreshing pink elixir in hand.

Then there's State Rep. Josh Clark, R-Buford, looking quite confused:

And another possible Deal employee who "spent time destroying pro-gun flyers" at Lake Lanier.

We've reached out to Gov. Deal's office to get their response and to confirm whether those individuals were part of his staff. If we hear back, we'll post an update.
