First Slice 1/3/14: Mother of murdered soldier in Kirkwood robbery attempt confronts alleged killer in courthouse

The mother of U.S. Army Reservist and art school student Xavier Arnold, who last week was murdered during a robbery attempt in Kirkwood, confronted one of the alleged suspects outside his court hearing. "I'm the mother who sat there and you told that 14-year-old to shoot my son in the head," Nichole Villafane said, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. "Now that you sat and thought about it, was it worth it? Was it worth it?"

An interracial Georgia couple who dined at Spondivits in East Point discovered that a parking valet had written the words "jungle fever" on their ticket. The employee responsible for writing the derogatory phrase has since been fired. "The experience besides the valet was wonderful," Samuel Aarons told CBS Atlanta.

Aubrey Lee Price, already a contender for best before-and-after photo of 2014, is scheduled to appear before a judge on Monday in Savannah for a bond hearing. The fugitive South Georgia banker accused of bilking millions of dollars from his customers - and who authorities suspected might have been dead - asked police to tell his family he was alive before notifying the media, according to the AJC.
