First Slice 1/31/14: State tows abandoned vehicles from interstates

At least 147 vehicles that had been abandoned around the metro area were towed and impounded by the state last night. A helpful guide for tracking down a vehicle can be found here or you can dial 511 for assistance. If you're put on hold, be patient, things around here have been getting jammed up a lot lately. Keep calm. Stay cool.

"The Daily Show" reminded the nation that the Weather Channel is located in Atlanta and suggested "Georgian of the Year" Mayor Reed and Gov. Deal should watch it occasionally or just look out the window from time to time. (Skip to around 1:45 in the video below for the Atlanta segment.)

A Snellville man attacked his wife with a hatchet and then had a standoff with police using a bow and arrows. While domestic violence isn't a laughing matter, and EMS eventually treated the wife for a hand injury, it's good to know that this maniac never got his hands onto a lance or a trident. Imagine the carnage he could have caused if weapons that powerful were readily available to violent idiots or the mentally unstable.

Ukrainian President Viktor F. Yanukovych called in sick yesterday in the midst of negotiations with opposition leaders. The country has been rocked by demonstrations and riots as well as brutal retaliation from the police and armed forced over the past months. Yanukovych is currently in stable condition. So remember to get your flu shot, you never know when you might be called upon to avert a coup d'état or revolutionary uprising. No one likes maintaining a nation-state with someone who has the sniffles.
