First Slice 2/11/14: 'Historic' ice storm expected to strike Atlanta tonight

Brace yourself for the incoming winter storm tonight, which the National Weather Service and local meteorologists say could bring "unprecedented, historic" amounts of ice to the metro Atlanta area.

Despite winter storm threats, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport officials are planning "to be open and fully operational" throughout the anticipated winter blast. Well, except for those cancellations...

Authorities yesterday took one suspect into custody following the alleged shooting of two people inside a Lawrenceville Kroger. "The scene is a little chaotic," a Lawrenceville police spokesman told the AJC. "You can probably imagine with everybody stocking up on bread and milk."

Atlanta, Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, and other local school systems have announced closures today, with a few already calling off Wednesday classes.

The Atlantic's staffers are a bit impressed with early advertisements from Georgia's Senate race.

The Tabernacle will reopen later this week after city officials found no signs of structural failure with the building's floor.

ICYMI: Police yesterday arrested two-dozen Moral Monday activists during a protest over Georgia's 'Stand Your Ground' law inside the office of state Sen. Jesse Stone, R-Waynesboro.
