If you're traveling in Atlanta this morning, the Georgia Department of Transportation says it may be best to avoid I-85. One person died and another was injured during a major wreck in which one truck overturned and split in half. Another truck crashed in the process, causing traffic in both directions on I-85 near I-285 to shut down.
Bernice King has surrendered Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Bible and Nobel Peace Prize, which are now being kept in a safety deposit box for the foreseeable future. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled that the civil rights icon's prized possession be placed there, with him holding the key, until the court skirmish comes to an end.
Atlanta Police are looking into a shooting that happened on Tuesday which left one dead and one injured in northwest Atlanta. No suspects or motive have been determined.
PeopleForBikes, a national pro-bicycle group, has selected Atlanta and five other cities to partake in its two-year Green Lane Project to build better bike lanes. "The selected cities have ambitious goals and a strong vision supported by their elected officials and communities," Martha Roskowski, PeopleForBikes Vice President of Local Innovation, said. "They are poised to get projects on the ground quickly and will serve as excellent examples for other interested cities."
Suspended DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis, who's currently facing corruption charges, is still getting paid close to $16,000 each month. When all is said and done, assuming a ruling comes in July as expected, county taxpayers will have shelled out an estimated $200,000 for him to do absolutely nothing.
