What a day! Our “Straight Outta Stankonia” #Outkast20 cover story drops and half the edit staff’s phone’s start blowing up with Atlanta Press Club Award of Excellence Finalist notifications. Congrats to Staff Writer Rodney Carmichael, nominated for his stellar commentary, including his coverage of a proposed white student union at GSU, Atlanta’s street vendors, and the sale and pending demolition of historic Friendship Baptist Church.

Culture Editor Wyatt Williams made the short list for the press club’s Rising Star Award for his recent body of work, which includes thoughts on Big Chicken, the ATL Twins, and Southern food, among others. Staff writer Max Blau is a finalist in the Print, Nondaily category for his encyclopedic three-part Grady Hospital series, his work covering the Braves’ impending Cobb County exodus with Thomas Wheatley, as well as his profile of the ATL’s most hated developer, Jeff Fuqua. Finally, Joeff Davis, who’s currently on paternity leave, has been nominated in the Photography, Nondaily category. More photos after the jump. Congrats gentlemen!
