First Slice 4/17/14: Major League Soccer team coming to Atlanta

Posted By on Thu, Apr 17, 2014 at 9:01 AM

It's official, Atlanta will be home to a Major League Soccer team. MLS commissioner Don Garber, Falcons owner Arthur Blank, and mayor Kasim Reed announced that the new team will begin playing in 2017. The new Falcons stadium will be their home turf.

The Atlanta Braves will no longer allow off-duty law enforcement officers from jurisdictions that don't include Turner Field to carry their guns into the stadium. Atlanta police officers and Fulton County sheriff's deputies can still bring firearms into the stadium, if they register the weapons with Atlanta police.

"The streetcar will be running by December 31, 2014," Mayor Kasim Reed said yesterday. That is an intentionally broad goal.

Gov. Nathan Deal will not be participating in an upcoming Republican primary debate sponsored by the Atlanta Press Club. Scheduled for May 14, we can all tune into GPB as it broadcasts the slugfest between former Dalton Mayor David Pennington and state School Superintendent John Barge.

Ponce City Market units are available for lease and man they're pricey.
