Got a question about Atlanta's new budget? Ask Council today

Posted By on Tue, May 6, 2014 at 10:29 AM

Budget season has returned! And with that comes the tedious process of figuring out how to balance the city's books and how much cash each department should receive for the upcoming fiscal year.

Later today, residents will get a chance to hear all about Mayor Kasim Reed's proposed $565.5 million budget for FY2015 at a public hearing at 6 p.m. Following the presentation, which is scheduled to take place in Atlanta City Council's chambers, residents will have a chance to ask about what the budget includes, why changes were made, and how that impacts the city moving forward.

If you can't make it there in person, here's how to submit questions:

-Questions can be submitted via email to atlantacouncil@atlantaga.gov
-Text questions to 404-392-0159
-Questions can be submit via the Atlanta City Council's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/atlantacitycouncil
-Citizens can submit their questions through twitter to @ATLCouncil and use the hashtag #atlbudget
-Questions can be phoned in to 404-330-6823

Council has already chimed in regarding a few things they'd like to see in the budget. The elected body is hoping to sign off on the spending plan during its June 16 meeting. If passed, it would go into effect starting on July 1.

We've included a copy of the mayor's proposed budget after the jump:
