You too can be Kim Jong-un in Atlanta game developer's 'Glorious Leader'

An upcoming Atlanta-made video game lets you play North Korean "supreme leader" Kim Jong-un as he attacks America while riding a unicorn.

Amazingly, Glorious Leader! is being whipped up by local indie game developer Moneyhorse LLC, and not made by the zany dictator himself. Remember last year's "Saturday Night Live"-quality North Korean propaganda video, where a chintzy space shuttle nukes the U.S. to the tune of "We Are the World?"

Moneyhorse founder Jeff Miller obviously does. The game's trailer begins with a few weapon-fondling photos of Kim, then shows his pixelated doppleganger launching fireballs from the horn of his unicorn, blowing up an American flag, and joining Dennis Rodman in descending to a Bond-villain lair beneath a basketball court. Screenshots from the game also promise narwhal attacks and the sinking of the Statute of Liberty.

His deliberately retro-cheesy, arcade-style side-scroller echoes both America's "War on Drugs" propaganda games of the 1980s and North Korea's macho saber-rattling. It also plays off the straight-faced Korean paranoia shooter "Homefront."

In a tongue-in-cheek website announcement declaring itself "capitalist pigs," Moneyhorse promises that Glorious Leader! will be "an epic tale about the triumph of Kim Jong-un over the entire American army. Battle through 7 unique levels as you defeat waves of imperialists, combat over-the-top bosses, and ride unicorns!"

"Finally, you will know why North Korea truly is the best Korea," it adds.

The game is blowing up in the international press, featured everywhere from NBC to the Guardian to PC Gamer. It's unclear exactly where and when the game will be released, and how serious its commercial ambitions are. CL couldn't reach Miller, whose company is registered at an Inman Park address, for comment. But in other interviews, he says it's coming this year on the PC and mobile platforms.
