ATLwood: 'Triple Nine' is in town

Posted By on Fri, Jun 6, 2014 at 11:46 AM

Filming Updates:
>> The MLK-centric Selma has been filming in Marietta (and will film in Montgomery and Selma soon). That necessitates the usual chaos: road closures and the like. Not everyone is happy, especially Marietta merchants. One said, "These businesses are destination businesses. You're not randomly coming here." (Random Oprah break!)

>> Taken 3 has been filming around the Georgia State and downtown areas.

>> Triple Nine, starring everyone you do and do not know (including Kate Winslet), starts filming here Monday. Base camp is at the 2nd Ponce de Leon Church in Buckhead. Rumor has it that some filming has already been completed at the St. Regis.

>> Insurgent is in town, reportedly filming at Serenbe Community, per OLV. The film is based out of Screen Gems.

>> Queen Latifah's Bessie Smith-centric HBO film Blue Goose Hollow will start filming here on the 16th and wrap the beginning of August.

>> TLC's "Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta" turns 7 (seasons) today, the most seasons of any airing TV show filmed in Atlanta.

>> "Devious Maids" wrapped production on its second season earlier this week.

Sightings:
>> Jimmy Buffet was in town recently for a show at Chastain. He "brunched" at the Ritz-Carlton but reportedly stayed at St. Regis.

>> Bachelorette Andi Dorfman watched the Dream win Tuesday night with her dad.

Castings:
>> Queen Latifah's Bessie Smith-centric HBO film Blue Goose Hollow needs extras! The film is seeking all ethnicities; but because it is a period film, African-Americans cannot have red or blonde hair or dreads or braids (unless they can be taken out). Send photos + info to bessieextras@gmail.com

>> Ride Along 2 needs all kinds of bit parts. They're seeking talent in both Miami and Atlanta - and will pay for you to travel. Learn how to become the "Bikini Shop Salesgirl" or "Commissioner" here.

Deals & Payoffs:
>> "Power," the 50 Cent-backed Starz drama premiering Saturday, stars Decatur native Omari Hardwick (who you probably don't remember from TNT's "Dark Blue.") This new role makes a certain sense: "I was always extremely aware of my talent level," Hardwick said.

>> It's the cast that keeps growing: Daniel Dae Kim has joined Insurgent as one of the Candor. (He's real honest.)

Miscellany:
>> Phil Robertson, of "Duck Dynasty" and many opinions unsullied by time or social progress, will appear with his brother at the Change a Life Festival at the World Congress Center on June 22. (Bring your camera. He may say something ... fun.)

>> Arnold Schwarzenegger's Sabotage, which filmed here last year, could have been a bit better - or worse, depending on how you feel about the Beastie Boys. The band denied the film's request to use its hit song (also named "Sabotage") in the promo materials, per the request of Adam "MCA" Yauch.

>> Oprah was reportedly on the set of Selma when she learned of the passing of Maya Angelou: "She was there for me always, guiding me through some of the most important years of my life," she posted on Instagram.
