First Slice 6/6/14: MARTA approves new budget, increases services

TRAINING DAY: New budget should mean shorter wait times for MARTA riders.

MARTA's Board of Direcctors approved a new budget yesterday that calls for a 19 percent increase in rail-service hours. That means wait times between trains should not exceed 10 minutes during peak travel periods. All that and fares will remain the same.

Jen Bhagia-Lewis and probably 50 to 75% of your Instagram feed captured the majestic skies of Atlanta last night. Good shot, Jen.

Sarah-Elizabeth Reed, the wife of Mayor Kasim Reed, gave birth to Maria Kristan Reed on Thursday. Congratulations to all involved. We hope everyone is healthy and happy. Yesterday, Reed told the city, "I'm not a parent." Way to slip that one in before the buzzer, Mr. Mayor!

Norcross officials are drafting a clever ordinance to circumvent many of the expensive inconveniences that the state's new "guns everywhere" law will create. The plan is sort of like the practice of adding "in bed" to whatever message your fortune cookie delivers but altered a touch for the wonk set. Norcross wants to add "and Municipal Court" to government buildings that don't fall within the current exceptions of the law and then guns aren't allowed and the town avoids the cost of adding guards and metal detectors to every door of the buildings.

Always a couple steps ahead of the rest of us, those trendcasters of the USA Today have named Castleberry Hill as one of the "10 best city art districts around the USA." Congrats to Castleberry Hill and welcome to 2009 USA Today staff. Spoiler alert: Bin Laden gets killed, Lebron takes his talents to South Beach, and Obama gets reelected!!!
