#DoGoodATL Update: Sopo installs bike racks at Gateway Center

Remember the #DoGoodATL campaign that sought to help homeless Atlantans earn free bikes? Fundraising was a definite success, with $2,909 being raised in record time and another $2,500 added by the Home Depot Foundation. Now the Sopo-Gateway project is hard at work making their goals of easier transit for Atlanta’s homeless a reality. Recently, volunteers installed bike racks at the Gateway Center. Now all those folks that the Center has helped have a place to park the bikes they’ve earned and learned how to work on. Collective high five!

Also in the works is a mobile bike-repair trailer, which would allow Sopo to bring its helpful services directly to homeless shelters and schools. Such a mobile project would significantly increase Sopo’s outreach, and bring the program to more folks in need.

As of now, the mobile bike-repair trailer is still a goal. Blueprints are being developed, and the good people of Sopo have a solid idea on how to move forward.
