More public meetings scheduled to discuss $250 million bond package

In early 2015, Atlanta residents will likely cast ballots to decide whether the city should take on as much as $250 million in debt to repair its bridges, roads, and sidewalks that make up part of its $1 billion infrastructure backlog.

City officials are in the process of compiling a lengthy project list that would be presented to voters. The effort began earlier this summer with a series of public meetings that allowed residents to say which projects should be prioritized. Following that round of public input, six more meetings have been scheduled to discuss a draft list of potential projects that would be a part of the finalized bond package.

Mayor Kasim Reed, who's currently working to cut $21 million from the city's annual budget to help pay for the bond package's debt payments, wants to present a final project list to Atlanta City Council before the end of December. A third and final set of public meetings is expected to take place in early 2015 prior to the referendum.
