First Slice 9/3/14: Two Morehouse students robbed at gunpoint

Atlanta Police are investigating a pair of armed robberies that occurred at Morehouse College. Last week, two students were also robbed at gunpoint on Georgia Tech's campus. APD has not yet arrested any suspects.

James Shelby, Atlanta's planning and community development commissioner, has left his post at City Hall. "[We] will make sure the important work of the department continues without interruption," Deputy Chief Operating Officer Tom Weyandt told the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Ubiquitous Entertainment Studios is continuing its legal fight against a deal made between Tyler Perry and Mayor Kasim Reed for the celebrity filmmaker to purchase of 330 acres at Fort McPherson. “This is not personal,” UES CEO Daniel Meachum tells Maria Saporta. “I don’t have any issues with Mayor Reed. I admire and respect what Tyler Perry has done. What Ubiquitous is trying to do is to create new Tyler Perrys.”

On average, only 1 out of 100 Georgia high schools offer sex education designed for LGBT students. “They don’t bring up anything other than a man and a woman having sex," Kaleb Anderson, an openly gay student at B.E.S.T. Academy High School in Atlanta, tells WABE. “With me being out and gay and sitting in a sex ed class where they’re just talking about a heterosexual man and woman having sex, [it] doesn’t really apply to me at all."
