First Slice 9/4/14: Attorney General’s Office and state ethics commission director sanctioned, fined in Deal whistleblower case

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville has sanctioned the Attorney General’s Office and state ethics commission director. Each party has also been ordered to pay $10,000 in fines for failing to turn over key documents in a whistleblower lawsuit involving the ethics commission and Gov. Nathan Deal’s office. Both parties plan to appeal the ruling.

Fast food and healthcare workers are staging a variety of protests across the country today demanding wage increases. A large rally is planned at the McDonald's on Ponce de Leon Avenue at noon.

Former DeKalb County Commissioner Elaine Boyer pleaded guilty to charges she stole more than $90,000 of taxpayers' money over the course of her 22 years in office. 

Healthy and grateful, Nancy Writebol held a press conference Wednesday near Charlotte, NC. Writebol was one of two American patients treated at Emory University after she and Dr. Kent Brantly contracted the Ebola virus in Liberia. The deadly virus continues to spread in Africa.
