Jason Carter is really, really sad that he can't make it to Gov. Deal's fundraiser

Both Gov. Nathan Deal and state Sen. Jason Carter, D-Atlanta, are ramping up their fundraising and voter outreach efforts with two months left until the 2014 election. And somehow during the gubernatorial campaign frenzy, the Republican incumbent sent his Democratic challenger an invite to one of his fundraisers.

Carter received an offer to attend Deal's $500-per-plate reception in Newnan later this month. It's unclear if the mailer was sent accidentally or not. But Carter's campaign quickly fired out a tweet that called it a desperate cash grab. Unsurprisingly, the Democratic candidate declined the invitation.

Recent polls show a tight race between Carter and Deal. The latest campaign finance disclosures report that the state senator has $1.8 million cash on hand, $800,000 less than the governor. But Carter outraised Deal in the second quarter of 2014.
