With a theme of “Embracing Diversity,” this year’s My Atlanta photo exhibition for Atlanta Celebrates Photography looked to explore the cultural and social differences of local residents. Open to the general public, senior centers, elementary, middle, and high Schools, photographers of all skill-sets were encouraged to participate.

Photo Editor Joeff Davis and I had the pleasure of judging the collection which will be on display this Sat., Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Piedmont Park Community Center. Fortunately, for the folks that can’t make it out, we’ve created a photo gallery of the 14 winners in this year’s competition. We’ve also added some of the stories behind the winning photographs, from Thomas Brodnax’s “Hashtag Selfie” (winner for Critic’s Choice), and Ken Guthrie’s “Waiting for the right moment” (Adult, 2nd Place) to Sandra Alexander’s “Scared Straight” (1st Place, Senior).
