Mayor Kasim Reed has said that Atlanta Police Chief George Turner received a large payout because of a personal hardship. But according to a secret audio recording obtained by WSB-TV, the city’s top cop told officers the payment came around the same time Turner considered retiring.

State Sen. Fran Millar, R-Dunwoody, has paid back $2,100 to the state after he apparently used his Gold Dome expense account to pay for some campaign expenses.

The University of Georgia has canceled the speech of a Liberian journalist over Ebola fears. Front Page Africa’s Wade C.L. Williams was scheduled to visit the school and speak to Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication students this week. Washington Post reporter Todd Frankel will speak instead.
