Scenes from the Phoenix Festival

Urban farm becomes artistic paradise

Image

The Phoenix Festival was a day of creative expression revolving around literature, visual arts, an music. The event took place at Urban Sprout Farms in the Lakewood community. The owner of USF, Nuri Icgoren, purchased the property with the intention of repurposing it to be a compost production and produce farm. Three years later, he is well on his way to succeeding. Phoenix Fest’s intention was to raise awareness of finding ways to repurpose property that was once going to waste. There was a large turnout on Sat., Nov. 15, as many people were curious to see the art installations, musicians, and live muralists made canvases out of former motel and two shipping containers.
