WRITE CLUB to celebrate book release with a bash, and battles
Literary organization celebrates the release of their first collection of essays.

It’s no secret that http://writeclubatlanta.com/WRITE CLUB has added some life to Atlanta’s literary scene. Luckily for us, some of the group’s best works have been compiled to create Bare-Knuckled Lit: The Best of Write Club, the first collection of essays from the show where writers compete to win money for their charity of choice. Writing on topics like lust, work, demons, and Santa, Bare-Knuckled is comprised of 24 essays from the city’s most popular competitive reading series. Although the Atlanta branch of WRITE CLUB does meet monthly, the series was founded in Chicago, and has since expanded to include shows in San Francisco, Toronto, and Los Angeles — the book features essays from scribes in those cities and others.

The anthology’s Atlanta-based writers include Jason Mallory (host of Scene Missing), Bobbin Wages (A Measly Growl and HotDogBeehonkus.com) Randy Osborne (producer of Carapace), actor and comedian Dani Herd, and WRITE CLUB Atlanta’s Consigliere Myke Johns, all of whom will also be reading at the book’s launch party on Sat., Feb. 28. WRITE CLUB founder Ian Belknap, who co-edited the book as well as writing the introduction, will be there to revel in the competition. And by competition we mean just that: seven minutes to persuade an audience of a viewpoint or peril. Well, not peril, but they definitely lose.

Hosted by Nick Tecosky, the launch will include three pairs of writers duking it out while the rest of us enjoy the drink specials, as promised. The event will be held at the Highland Inn Ballroom Lounge, and admission is only $5. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m., but don’t forget to pick up your copy of Bare-Knuckled Lit while you’re there. ? ?
