First Slice 4/17/15: Kaiser Permanente bringing $20 million IT campus, 900 jobs to Midtown

Kaiser Permanente announced it will establish a $20 million information technology campus in Midtown, creating around 900 jobs. Georgia is already home to more than 200 health IT companies and won out over Colorado for this project, boosting the state’s and Atlanta’s reputation as a health IT industry hub.
The suspect who was shot and injured by police last week in Mechanicsville after allegedly pointing a pistol at two officers has been granted a $10,000 bond. His lawyer remarks that it is “absolutely rare” for a judge to set such a low bond when police claim to have been attacked.
As expected, Governor Nathan Deal has signed a bill making medical marijuana legal in Georgia. According to 11Alive, tears filled his eyes as he said, “It’s touched my heart. I’m just pleased that today we’re going to make a difference and it’s going to be a good difference.”
