Beltline Westside Trail is humming along and oh my God what a handsome storm-drain project

Work continues on 3-mile trail stretching through southwest Atlanta

?If you want to see people jogging and riding bicycles, head to the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail. If you are more into heavy machinery, men wearing neon vests, and massive storm-drain projects, the Westside Trail is the place to be for the next year or two. Just don’t venture on the path, as it’s an active construction site.
?
?According to Atlanta Beltline Inc., the group tasked with planning and developing the project, work crews have flattened dirt and cut down trees along the 3-mile multi-use trail that will snake past southwest Atlanta neighborhoods such as Washington Park, Westview, West End, Adair Park, and Capitol View.
?
?As we noted in our recent Answers Issue, the construction team is first installing the drainage system to handle storm water and flooding in the former railroad corridor, some of which sits below grade. Workers will then install retaining walls where needed. The pavement comes near the end of the process. Unlike the Eastside Trail, crews expect to install access points during the trail’s construction, rather than afterward. Officials estimate it will be completed in 2017.
