SCAD Atlanta expanding film/tv offerings with BFA program

It’s the second area school n recent months to announce an expansion of its media production offerings to capitalize on Atlanta’s rising status in film

?SCAD will begin offering a new bachelor of fine arts degree in film and television at its Atlanta campus this fall. The new BFA degree will make SCAD Atlanta the second area school in recent months to announce an expansion of its media program in conjunction with Atlanta’s rising status as a production hub.
?
?SCAD cites MovieMaker magazine’s January inclusion of Atlanta in its list of the top ten big cities for filmmakers to live and work, as well as recent grads securing jobs and internships with such productions as Jurassic World, “The Walking Dead,” Ant-man, and The Hunger Games.
?
?Students who enroll in the new BFA program beginning in September will pursue their degree in SCAD’s existing 60,000 square-foot Digital Media Center.
?
?The announcement follows Georgia State University’s planned expansion into the same territory. GSU will utilize a recent philanthropic gift of $22.8 million from the Robert Woodruff Foundation to fund the new media production center near Woodruff Park in the former SunTrust Bank building. Scheduled to open in August 2016, the center will house GSU’s forthcoming Creative Media Industries Institute. GSU communications department chair David Chessier believes the center could help triple the state school’s enrollment of students in the film, media, gaming, and music industries, he told CL last November.

?The BFA program at SCAD Atlanta follows the addition of master of arts and MFA programs in film/TV production last year.
