Sean Fahie, Artemus Jenkins, and Afropunk tell Atlanta’s story

‘If You Know the Words, Feel Free’ let’s the city’s creatives share their struggles and successes

? No one can tell Atlanta’s story quite like its residents. On top of that, there can’t be any discussion about the city’s creative communities without including the visual and performing artists that are actively involved in its cultivation and promotion. That’s or more less the inspiration behind the film If You Know the Words, Feel Free, a documentary-style exploration into ATL’s black arts scenes and the struggles and successes experienced by the men and women working to make a living out of their passion.
?
? In conjunction with the now-canceled Atlanta edition of Afropunk, the film was directed by Artemus Jenkins (“Smoke and Mirrors”), and follows local renaissance man, Sean Fahie (also one the film’s producers), as he interviews everyone from photographer Vek Neal and Best of Atlanta winner Michi Meko to City of Ink’s Corey Davis, and up-and-coming illustrator and painter, FRKO.
? embed-1“I’m amped to have the distinct pleasure to help create what I feel will be a film that gives great insight into the way the creative culture has grown and feels about the current state and hopefully the future of this great city of Atlanta,” Fahie told CL about the project that was executive-produced by Glynn Murphy.
?
? For the latest edition of Fahie’s series, “The Influencers Present,” the film will premiere at Studio No. 7, and will be followed by Q&A with Afropunk co-founder Matthew Morgan. The event will also feature music and live performances from Dj 100 K!, FLY+PAC, Karen Alise, Plewto Smith, HAVNTR, and Chilly Chills. If you can’t make it out to tonight’s premiere, the film will be available on the Afropunk website, Fri., Oct. 2.
