Reed: annexation story ‘perpetuates a form of bigotry’

Mayor no likey Atlanta Magazine story about the push to add Druid Hills and Sandtown to city

“Across the nation, we have seen that voters will choose leaders based on their talent, merit and record of accomplishment, not solely on their race. Atlanta Magazine staff writer Max Blau seems to expect that black and white voters have and will always choose a mayor based on skin color rather than talent and tenacity. By focusing so intently on the subject of race to the exclusion of all other considerations, Blau perpetuates a form of bigotry that I am confident the city’s voters will reject.”

? - Mayor Kasim Reed responds to Atlanta Magazine staff writer (and former CL scribe) Max Blau’s recent story about the city’s shifting demographics, Atlanta’s potential annexation of Druid Hills and Sandtown, and how those factors could play into determining the city’s next mayor in 2017. It’s a good read.
