DeKalb County may finally be getting a new animal shelter. The county’s Board of Commissioners has approved a contract to build the facility and is optimistic that it could be open in early 2017. Animal advocates who have been fighting for a new shelter for years, however, will believe it when they see it. They say it’s a long overdue upgrade from the current shelter’s overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.

Feast your eyes on renderings of the most expensive Georgia government building in state history. Gov. Nathan Deal wants to build a “prominent and iconic” new home for the Georgia Supreme Court that would cost more than $110 million.

Atlanta police have arrested a suspect in the home invasion last month that caused the apartment’s occupant to jump off his balcony and die. The 20-year-old suspect is charged with one count of felony murder and burglary.

Abby Kemp, the 24-year-old former model turned alleged jewelry thief, was denied bond yesterday and is believed to have confessed to the string of robberies.

The noise levels in Camden County may one day rise to infinity and beyond. A bill introduced in the Georgia General Assembly this week would allow a planned spaceport to be as loud as it wants. The bill would also prohibit potential future space tourists from suing for injuries or damages incurred during extraterrestrial flights.
