The state has set the execution date for Brandon Jones, the oldest man on Georgia’s death row. The 72 year-old was convicted in the 1979 killing of Roger Tackett, a convenience store manager.

Friends and family are mourning the deaths of Kryzysztof Krawczynski, a Hepatitis researcher, and his wife, Elzbieta Gurtler-Krawczynska, who was active in metro Atlanta’s Polish-American community. The elderly couple were driving home when their car was struck by two suspects involved in a police chase.

More than half of the teachers at one elementary school did not come to work the day after Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Meria Carstarphen announced she would turn over operations to a charter school if voters approve a state takeover plan in November.

A game of political chess is about to be played in the drawn-out saga of a Marietta Square property that is now a hole in the ground.

One thing Mark Richt can’t take with him to the coach’s new job at Miami University: his house. He’s listed the 5,800-square-foot property in Watkinsville for $799,000.
