The Atlanta Police Department fired Officer James Burns yesterday for killing a man in Midtown that he suspected of breaking into cars. The incident happened weeks ago but remained under the radar while high-profile killings of black men by police in Louisiana and Minneapolis last week stirred protests throughout the nation and in Atlanta. Police have yet to determine what crime, if any, the shooting victim committed or was in the act of committing.

Reed emerged from the unplanned meeting with four core organizers, promising them a more substantial sit-down at 9 a.m. next Monday, July 18. The Buckhead protest was the fifth consecutive day that Atlanta protestors took the streets in large numbers. Police Chief George Turner had recently expressed concern over the strain protests were putting on the department.

He’s walking back his father’s statement regarding Atlanta tepid fanbase being a major reason Horford decided to take his game to the Boston Celtics: “I was angry when I heard about that because I never felt that way. I’ve been here a long time. I’ve actually gotten to know a lot of our fans, a lot of our season-ticket holders with the Hawks. They’ve always been great to me. I’ve always been very content and happy with the way they’ve treated me and my family.” Horford also says his decision to leave wasn’t based on Dwight Howard joining the Hawks.

The carrier recently sent a letter of intent to the airport that read, in part: “We believe that the Atlanta air market is currently overpriced and suffering from insufficient competition.”
