Weekend Arts Agenda: ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ July 28 2016

This weekend, the Infinite Energy Center brings a classic musical to Atlanta. Based on stories from the Book of Genesis, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat follows the titular Joseph, son of Jacob, through his trials and tribulations. Full of catchy tunes, the family-friendly musical continues to please audiences.
You have three days before Harry Potter and the Cursed Child hits shelves, Atlanta. Here’s some things to do between butterbeer runs, all laid out after the jump.
ON THURSDAY
›› Tonight, Atlanta playwright Karen Wurl’s new show Dispossessed premieres at the West End Performing Arts Center. Part of the 2016 Essential Theatre Play Festival, the romantic comic-fantasy follows a Yiddish theater company rehearsing the classic play “The Dybbuk” in 1928 New York. As the lead actress finds herself pushed towards a marriage she doesn’t want, she — and her hallucinations of her character — struggle to follow her heart. 8 p.m. at the West End Performing Arts Center.

›› Comic fans will be excited to know that Betty and Veronica writer and artist Adam Hughes, as well as variant cover artist Andy Price (known for his work on My Little Pony) will be signing and sketching at My Parents’ Basement. Fans are encouraged to come and meet the duo — you can even get a personalized sketch. 6-8 p.m. at My Parents’ Basement.
ON SATURDAY
›› Saturday brings the sixth annual 3-D-only art show, Off The Wall to the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association. Attendees can experience the unique charms and beauty of three-dimensional works in the all-genre exhibit. Just don’t try to occupy the same space as the art. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association.
ON SUNDAY
›› When you’re finally done with your non-stop binge read, bring balance back to your life with Inratio at Notch 8 Gallery. Featuring the local work of Erin Bassett, Carl Janes, Pash Lima, Sanithna Phansavanh, and Tanner Wilson, the exhibit explores the balance of art, life, and work through a series of unique lenses. Let it remind you: you can’t spend all night on the HP fan forums. 2-5 p.m. at Notch 8 Gallery.
