ATLwood: Is Zombieland 2 in the works?

Posted By on Fri, Apr 29, 2016 at 8:46 AM

What's Happening?
>> More movies, more jobs, more cash: The Georgia Film Academy has completed its new soundstage at Pinewood Atlanta Studios (where Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently being filmed!).

The soundstage will be used to train film and entertainment industry hopefuls. It will also help Georgia's film industry continue on it's on it's path of economic success, providing up to 5,000 new jobs. Georgia's film industry roped in $6 billion in the last two years and created nearly 80,000 jobs.

The soundstage will be home to Semester on Set, a larger initiative by The Georgia Film Academy. Semester on Set is a 10-week course that kicks off this May, and it aims to give students hands on experience in the industry. The course will be also be offered at institutions included in the University System of Georgia  and the Technical College System of Georgia.

>> Rumor has it: Zombieland 2, the follow-up to most adorable zombie flick ever, Sony Pictures' Zombieland, is going to begin filming here in Atlanta this summer. After a logo for the film debuted at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this year, the streets were buzzing and now it's looks like something is going to happen! However, there is no official official word yet. It is unclear if the first film's stars, including Emma Stone and Jesse Eisenberg, will be back dodging zombie homicide for the re-boot, but we'll keep you posted.

Filming Updates
>> The "Baywatch" movie, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Effron,  is still filming in locations around Atlanta and Savannah and "Baywatch" O.G. Pamela Anderson was spotted on set! She won't be reviving her role as C.J. Parker from the original series, but fans will probably still be excited to see her return.

>> "Star" is born: Still basking in the über-success of "Empire," Fox and "Empire" creator Lee Daniels are teaming up once again to bring us "Star."The series, which will be set and filmed here, focuses on the careers of three aspiring singers. Newcomers Ryan Destiny (below, left), Brittany O'Grady (below, center) and Jude Demorest (below, right) will star alongside Queen Latifah and Lenny Kravitz.

Fox ordered 13 episodes of the show and it will be featured in the network's 2016-2017 season lineup.

Lee Daniels shared a video update with his three leading ladies on Instagram:

ATLwood: A charitable actor and a digital Disney casting call

Posted By on Fri, Apr 22, 2016 at 11:42 AM

What's Happening?
>> News from the Galaxy: Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is still filming here at Pinewood Atlanta Studios and actor Chris Pratt, who will star as half-alien, half-human Peter Quill, is giving us a hilariously unique tour of the set.

Take a look below as he shows us everything from air conditioning units to a spaceship:

>>Admirably, the video was filmed all in the name of charity: With promises of things like "free eggs" on set, Pratt attempts to persuade viewers to enter a competition for a chance to win a private lunch with him and a free visit to the Guardians of Galaxy Vol.2 set. In order to win, hopefuls are being asked to donate to the Lake Stevens Boys and Girls Club in Pratt's hometown of Lake Stevens, Washington.

>>In other Guardians Vol. 2 news: John C Reilly, who played Rhomann Dey in the first Marvel installment, and Benicio Del Toro, who played the Collector, will not be returning for the second installment of the film. Farewell, guys.

Filming Updates
>> And that's a wrap:  Filming for All Eyez on Me, the biopic focused on the life of late rapper Tupac Shakur, has come to an end. The majority of the movie was filmed here in Atlanta, with some later scenes being filmed in Las Vegas.

The film, starring newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Pac, was directed by Benny Boom and is slated to hit theatres in September of this year. The journey of getting this film from start to finish was anything but smooth, but by look of things it was all worth it:

And that's a picture wrap. Still can't believe what my life has become and is becoming. Not too long ago it was just struggle, stress and trying to figure it all out. Now I just wrapped up a feature film and I'm the star,  and not just any movie, the life of Tupac, CRAZY. 2015 threw every curveball possible in the midst of preparation to get this role. Thank God for giving me what I needed to keep going and blessing me with the role. Thank you to all the crew and cast, man yall helped make this experience unforgettable  4real. I've made some life long friendships within this film and can't wait til we're all together again at the premiere. R.i.p to Tupac Shakur,  you're a Black Pioneer and a Hero to our people and culture. I hope my performance pays tribute and gives insight to your life and most of all "Spark the brain"

A personal guilty pleasure of mine, TLC's hit show "Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta: Bridesmaids" is having a casting call. Yep. That means you and all of your picky girlfriends may finally have a reason to be on TV! A spin-off of "Say Yes to the Dress," where the brides go through the tense, grueling, painstaking process of picking out a wedding dress, "Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids" is thirty minutes of watching that same bride order her friends around in taffeta and satin in an effort to choose the perfect color and style combinations at Bridal's by Lori, the biggest bridal salon in the Southeast.

You can apply to be on the show one of two ways: By applying online, or by showing up in person this Saturday from 12-3 p.m. in Griffin:

Your 15 minutes: Casting calls for Bad Girls Club, Love Games and more

It could be your ass on this poster!

If you've ever wanted to have your very own "RESPECT MY SLEEP" moment, well, now might be the chance you need: casting calls for Oxygen's Bad Girls Club and Love Games are coming to Atlanta.

Both shows bring together casts of people to live in "beautiful mansions" and have their lives taped. The more fighting and volatility, the better. Love Games focuses more on competing for love while also residing in a mansion.

For both shows, the call is on May 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Publik Draft House, 654 Peachtree Road. Applicants must be over 21 and bring a recent picture of themselves, which will not be returned.

For more details, or how to apply by e-mail, visit the page for Bad Girls Club or Love Games.

Also, a trio of cooking-related shows are seeking participants. The concepts are pretty out there—one even involves IKEA—check out this Omnivore post for more.

OK, maybe that's taking it a little bit far.

I did just get an e-mail, though, saying Smoltzy is gonna make a cameo as — wait for it — HIMSELF, in the upcoming (as in late 2011) Ryan Reynolds/Jason Bateman comedy The Change-Up from Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin.

Now, if you've been good and read this week's cover story, then you know that The Change-Up is filming in Atlanta and has been spotted shooting at locations such as Inman Park, along Peachtree Road, and the German American Chamber of Commerce — hilarious!

Anyway, if you want a chance to star as YOURSELF alongside the Cy Young-award winner, you can register to be an extra in the film this Saturday at Turner Field.

Go Braves!
