Anonymous donor gifts $75,000 to Spelman College Museum of Fine Art

The local art community, like many Georgians, continues to struggle to keep afloat in this wretched economy. But we bring good tidings this dreary November afternoon: An anonymous donor has lent a helping hand to the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art to the tune of $75,000.

According to an e-mail sent by Museum Director Andrea Barnwell Brownlee, "Last week an anonymous donor contributed $75,000 in honor of my ambitious vision for the Museum. President Beverly Daniel Tatum, colleagues in Institutional Advancement, and the Museum staff share my enthusiasm for this generous endorsement."

Reminder! The submission deadline for our annual fiction contest is less than a month away. Enter the contest for a chance to get published in Creative Loafing and win up to $1,000 cash!

Submissions should run no more than 3,000 words and must incorporate "X" as a theme, metaphor—whatever. Fiction Contest deadline is Fri., Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. Details at clatl.com/fiction.
